Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us most.

How does Contact Me break through Silent Mode?

Alerts from your trusted contacts are delivered as high priority notifications, so they can produce a sound that stands out even when your ringer is off or Do Not Disturb is on.

For this to work, Contact Me needs notification permission enabled in your device settings, and the app needs to be allowed to deliver time sensitive alerts. If alerts are arriving silently, check Settings → Notifications → Contact Me on your device.

Delivery still depends on network coverage, battery, and whether the device is powered on, so alerts are not guaranteed to arrive.

Who can alert or call me through the app?

Only people you have approved as trusted contacts. Nobody else can send you an alert or reach you through Contact Me.

When someone adds you, the request appears under the Requests tab and stays there until you accept it. You can remove an approved contact at any time, and removing them immediately stops them from alerting you.

Is my location private?

Yes. Location sharing is optional and turned off unless you choose to enable it.

If you do turn it on and allow location "Always," the app updates your position in the background, including when the app is closed. That is how your family can see where you are without you having to open the app. If you prefer, you can choose "While Using the App" instead, and your location will only update when the app is open.

  • Your location is visible only to the specific trusted contacts you approve, never to the public and never to other users.
  • We do not sell location data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
  • We store only your most recent position, and each update replaces the last. We do not build a history of where you have been.
  • You can stop sharing with any individual contact, turn location off in the app, or revoke the permission entirely in your device settings. Turning location off does not disable alerts.

Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

How do I stop sharing my location?

You have three levels of control, and any of them can be changed at any time:

  1. One person. Open the contact in the Contacts tab and turn off location sharing for just them.
  2. Everyone. Turn location sharing off in the app to stop sharing with all contacts at once.
  3. Completely. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Contact Me on your device and set it to Never.
How do I add or remove a trusted contact?

To add someone: open the Contacts tab, tap the add person icon in the top right, and enter their phone number. They need to already have a Contact Me account. They will get a request, and nothing is shared between you until they accept it.

To remove someone: open the Contacts tab, tap the person you want to remove, and choose to remove them. They will no longer be able to send you alerts or see your location, and you will no longer see theirs.

Only send requests to people who are happy to hear from you. If you get a request you did not expect, you can simply decline it under the Requests tab.

If they do not use Contact Me yet, you can share a link to the app with them yourself, then send the request once they have signed up.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Contact Me is free to download, and some features require a paid subscription. Subscriptions are billed through Apple, so they are managed in your device settings rather than in the app.

Go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, tap Contact Me, and choose Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.

Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us.

Why does the app ask permission to track me?

We use AppsFlyer and RevenueCat to see which of our own ads bring people to the app and to manage subscriptions. To measure that, we share a device identifier with them, which counts as tracking under Apple's rules, so iOS asks your permission first.

You can say no. If you decline, we do not access your advertising identifier, and every feature of the app keeps working exactly the same. You can change your answer any time in Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking.

We do not show ads in the app, and your location is never shared with these providers.

How do I delete my account and my data?

Email us at contactme@contactme-hq.com from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We will delete your data unless the law requires us to keep something.

If you also have a paid subscription, cancel it separately in your Apple subscription settings, since deleting an account does not stop Apple billing.

I need help with my account. What do I do?

Email contactme@contactme-hq.com and tell us what is happening, including the device you are using and what you have already tried. A real person will get back to you, usually within one business day.

If you think someone has accessed your account without permission, contact us right away.

Contact Me is not an emergency service. The app does not connect you to 911 or any emergency, police, fire, or medical service, and alerts and locations are not guaranteed to arrive. In any emergency, always call your local emergency number first.
